Better Use of Jellyfish

**Two things I hate are (a.) gas prices and (b.) jellyfish. Both commodities have been becoming problems throughout the nations. Gas prices are sky rocketing due to lack of resources and jellyfish have been much more prevalent the last few years. A new species of jellyfish was actually recently discovered in Australia. The Irkandji Jellyfish is a deadly sea creature that is responsible for +70 recorded deaths. Even the average jellyfish is nuisance. These types of marine animals drive me crazy. One summer down the shore, as my friend and I were collecting (and killing) all the jellyfish we came across, we thought of what we conceive to be a great idea. We should use jellyfish to fuel vehicles.
**To us, jellyfish were just annoying pieces of goo stinging us while ruining our fun. We saw no importance for them, though of course we knew God made them for a reason. When researched, I learned that jellyfish are a form of plankton and several other marine animals such as turtles and crabs feed off them. Other than that, they don't seem to have a huge role in the ecological system of our environment. Therefore, I still believe my plan is almighty. Without wiping out the entire jelly population, scientist could extract the proteins from these creatures and generate electric currents. Currently, natural gas is at an alarming rate yet jellyfish are evolving hastily. I say we take advantage of this sea residence and help calm the utilization of gas. Big Babies

***The Blindside was a top box office movie November of 2009 and since then became a bestseller novel. It is mentioned over and over again in the book that the focus, Michael Oher, is a massive giant but with incredible athletic abilities. Certain details in the story offer that Michael's father was a small man and his mother no more than average. It didn't make sense to me how he could be so big and yet so fit. Or how his little parents could produce a creature so immense. ***Black infants tend to be smaller than white infants so it is especially extraordinary how Michael got to be so astronomical. Certain gestational determinants of Michael's mother, Denise "Dee Dee" Oher, must have been greatly affected during the pregnancy. For starters, Dee Dee probably gained a good deal of weight during her time carrying Michael. Doctors sometimes recommend for mothers able to expect smaller children to gain between 25-35 pounds. Dee Dee I'm sure did not see a doctor asking for this advice but an accidental weight gain is a probable factor of the epic being. The age of the birth-er also plays a part in the size of the birth-ee. Young parents averagely have smaller babies and the first baby they produce will likely be thier smallest infant. Denise Oher had five other children before Michael, all boys who of course are usually larger girls. (She had seven more kids, boys and girls after Michael.) The worst of all the components that play a part in the outcome Michael's physical build is Dee Dee's addiction to crack cocaine before and during her pregnancy with the boy. This addiction could have caused plenty of birthing defects but thankfully settled on just producing an abnormally large human. ***As for Michael's phenomenal speed and agility, they remain a mystery. There is no way a person could have such a huge build and yet have so much vigor too. His immortal powers are unexplainable. I believe it was Tom Lemming who said Michael's almighty skills were nothing he's ever seen before. The best guess as to how this became so is that Michael has been running his whole life. From chasing his brothers around the yard to sprinting away from the police. As Michael was growing in size, his stamina was strengthening as well. But in general, Michael Oher is the eighth wonder of the world. Cite: http://www.streetdirectory.com/etoday/factors-affecting-international-business-awwep.html

Can You Feel the Power?

*** Gravitational potential energy is the energy an object posses in a position based on its gravitational field. On the other hand, elastic potential energy is the resistance of certain objects from becoming deformed. In the Can You Feel the Power? lab, elastic potential energy (EPE) and Gravitational Potential Energy (GPE) were lucidly exemplified. Following the procedure to the rocket, I first used EPE by pulling the rubber band at a specific stretch point. The rocket, at that point, is resting on the rubber band without moving and ergo contains GPE. Kinetic energy takes over as soon as the rocket takes off from its resting point.

*** My partner and I documented the height the rocket reached at various amounts of stretch vigor. Although we recorded each stretch point three times each, it is highly likely the amount of force was slightly off. For example, what might be recorded as ten centimeters is actually nine centimeters. The amount of stretch may be an error in the lab, but it is also a well reasoned variable. Based on experimental probability, it was proven the GPE changed according the amount of stretch. That shows how the change of one factor will effect the outcome.

Turner Syndrome

Degree & Ahnn Studies 128 Admire Drive Camelport, TX 43210 * Dear Mrs. Koch, * In order to research your infertility, I have taken a karotype of your blood. A karotype is a map of all the chromosomes in your body. This type of testing is used for many diagnoses such as Klinfelter’s Syndrome, Tay Sach, Fragile X disease and many others. The average human body contains 46 chromosomes, organized structures of DNA. Chromosomes show the genetic information in one’s body. There are 22 sets of chromosomes plus an additional two individual chromosomes. Each set pertains to a different factor of the body. The two add-ons are called the X/Y chromosomes. The X and Y are what decide if you’re a girl or boy. Having two X’s mean you are a female, where as having one X and one Y makes you a male. (A pair of two Y chromosomes does not exist.) * After analyzing your karotype, Judy, I have discovered you only have 45 chromosomes. You are missing your second X chromosome, which affects your growth system. This situation is known as Turner Syndrome. This disease is caused by nondisjunction of parental chromosomes during reproduction. Females with this condition often have broad, flat chests, drooping eyelids, dry eyes, and incomplete development of puberty. As a girl, you may have noticed you were developing slower then your peers. People with Turner Syndrome slack in growth of height and pubic hair. Also because menstruation is rarely present with this case, vaginal dryness often occurs which leads to painful intercourse. Other complications you could endure on account of this disease are; arthritis, cataracts, diabetes, hashimoto's thyroidsitis, heart defects, high blood pressure, kidney problems, middle ear infection and/or obesity. * As you already are aware of, growth hormones are great help to the expedition of breasts and pubic hair. Estrogen replacements also are very good at relieving symptoms of Turner Syndrome. I know you plan to expand your family with your husband and I am sorry to say it is not possible to do so by natural development. However, if you are willing to accept donor eggs or fertility shots you could reproduce successfully without your child having the same issue. Adoption is another common conformity. Although this disease does effect you, it is only a part of you physical and emotional self. There is nothing stopping you from living a fun and active life. As long as you stay monitored your life will be completely normal. * I understand this is big news but it is nothing to worry about. My colleague, Madison Degree and I are proud to help you with any accommodation you decide on. If you seek further support, try joining the Turner Syndrome Society at http://www.turnersyndrome.org/. You lived your life up till now without the knowledge of your disease; don’t let this conscience affect your daily life from now on. * Profoundly, * Dr. Jill Lee Ahnn Physician of Degree & Ahnn Studies (123) 987-6431

Toothpick Fish Lab

__Since starting the genetics unit in science class, I have learned a lot about genes and alleles. Genes are the set of information that control a trait, where as an allele is the different form of a gene. Every organism has genes. The genes of people show what color eyes, what texture hair, etc. Animals are similar by showing the type of fur and length of claws. Plants will expose pedal color, thorn probability and such. By completing the Toothpick Fish Lab, I realized how certain alleles benefit in specific environments. __Before beginning the lab, the "lake" was placed with eight green fish, eight yellow fish, and eight red fish. The twenty four fish were [randomly] paired up producing a total of twelve baby fish. Because green alleles were dominant to both red and yellow, 67% of the newborns were green. The other 33% was orange due to the fact that red and orange alleles had incomplete dominance. Incomplete dominance is a cross between organisms with two different physical features, which essentially create a blend of the two features. In the second generation of offspring, two yellow fish were produced by the joining of two yellow alleles from the parents. Unfortunately, the habitat in which the school is located, is made up of a variety of green plants. The greens' sorroundings made it difficult for the yellow fish to camouflage themselves, therefore being located and eaten by prey. The population then decreased down to ten. The third generation's population stayed at ten but then shrank to nine in the fourth and final generation when another yellow baby was born. The current population included two red fish, one orange and six green fish. Erratically, an oil spill struck the lake causing all the plants to dye. This event induced the green fish to be the "fish out of water" by destroying all of their hiding spots. Since all the yellow and green fish were now extinct, the population was alarming down to the three red and orange fish. __With multiple options of different standards, the lab would have gone in a completely different direction. For example, if yellow was dominant to either (or both) of the other colors, the population would have diminished a lot faster. Or, maybe if yellow and green were codominant, part of that group would be captured, but not every single yellow/green. There are so many factors in this assignment that if changed, would make a dramatic difference. Specifications of this are; the natural disaster, dominance's and the habitat. If these changes were present during the lab, the population may have even increased. This lab really helped me to understand how important it is for organisms to cross breed and form new genotypes.

How Camera's Work

_At my age, taking pictures is a common hobby. We snap some shot, we flip through tens of pictures we took maybe just minutes before, we might even be posing for the camera with just a timer set to flash. What we never really do is think about how this contraption that continues to get physically smaller but with a bigger storage capacity works. With three basic elements, a "simple" machine can collect and store memories to keep for infinite amount of time. An optical element, more commonly known as the lens, combines with a chemical film strip and a mechanical body structure. _A lens, as my class recently learned with out microscope test, is nothing more then a curved piece of glass (or sometimes plastic.) In the case of the camera, the lens captures light reflecting of objects and composes it to form a picture. This may be even more confusing but like anything, as light travels, its changes speed when switching from one medium to another. You might find it harder to run in the sand as apposed to running on pavement. When light transfers to glass from air it slows down. The curves in the glass allow the light to bend so all the aspects of the image can come together. _When the camera zooms in and out, the angel of light entry changes. If the object is close to the camera, then a sharper angel is applied. In contrast, the farther the object is the more obtuse the angels will be. As the light enters on an acute angel, it exits on an obtuse angel. Likewise when its enters on an obtuse angel it leaves on an acute angel. The bending point although stays the same no matter what distance is between the two. Whats really weird is how a real image of a closer object forms farther away from the lens then a more distant image does. This is what causes an image to be blurry. You want the picture to line up perfectly on the film rather then be to far or to close. Luckily with modern technology we have knobs and buttons to make it easier for us to focus our pictures. _After an image is captured, it prints itself onto a chemical strip with microscopical light sensitive grains. A colored image is exposed to more chemicals the dye of red, green and blue which layer on top of each other. As for black and white pictures, the areas that light was most brandished turned negative/darker. Now with digital cameras, film is saved on a tiny, miniature hard drive located inside the machine. _Its truly amazing how far technology has come. Although it is taken advantage of, cameras are considered a very important part of history. Next time my friends and i waste time with our unofficial photo shoots we'll keep in mind how phenomenal the contraption is. Cite: http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/camera.htm
